About Women's News

Women’s news is a charitable organisation committed to empower women. We are a feminist organisation that produces and provides a forum for communication between women, for women.

Women’s news was first established in 1984, its objective was to provide an information network and a forum for women. It also aimed to promote a better understanding and co-operation between women from different backgrounds and opinions.

In 1997 Women’s news introduced an education project for the advancement of education and to provide in Northern Ireland facilities in the interests of social welfare for the recreation and leisure time occupation of women who by reasons of social or economic circumstances have need of such facilities. In furtherance of the above objective, the organisation helped to establish centres for activities for women, provided classes, lectures, exhibitions events and also provided information regarding health. It provided training for volunteers, procured written material in regards to women’s centres and carried out research surveys and investigations in relation to women’s issues.

In 1997, European Funds for Peace and Reconciliation funded the organisation in order to continue and strengthen the work of Women’s news for women, developing a variety of training programmes for women based on Information Technology and Media skills. We believe that education is a key factor in addressing women’s marginalisation, therefore, Women’s news training programmes are designed to enable women to participate in society.

Women’s news has worked for the advancement of women in society in terms of communication, education and employment, as well as participating in the Peace and Reconciliation process, promoting the understanding between women from different backgrounds and opinions.
